The Seconds

Sasha had always found her grandmother's repeated calls to be an inconvenience. Whenever Sasha didn't pick up, she wondered why her granny kept calling. "Doesn't she understand that I'm busy?" she would think. "It's lunchtime—of course, I'll be eating! Why does she need to ask every time?"

Sasha often felt embarrassed when her granny called while she was out with friends. One evening, after a particularly tough day, Sasha found herself frustrated by yet another call. She was irritable and angry. When she returned home, she marched straight to her grandmother's room and, with a burst of frustration, yelled, "Leave me alone when I'm not around! I wish you'd stop chasing after me!"

Her grandmother, with a calm voice full of love, responded softly, "Sasha dear, I will always be with you." But Sasha, caught up in her anger, snapped back, "You’ll never change," and walked away to her room.

Later, after washing her face and taking a deep breath to calm herself, Sasha began to reflect. For the first time, she realized the depth of her grandmother’s care. Her granny had been there for her after the tragic loss of her parents and little brother, giving her love and protection through all the years. And for all that time, Sasha had taken her for granted. Guilt flooded her heart, and she rushed back to her grandmother's room, hoping to apologize.

But when Sasha entered, she found her grandmother silent. No words, no warmth. Panicked, she called the doctor, who arrived and confirmed what Sasha feared: her grandmother had passed away. It had been three hours.

Sasha's heart shattered. She realized that she had let precious moments slip away, moments she could have spent cherishing the person who had always been there for her. Now, she would never have the chance to make amends.

In that painful silence, Sasha finally understood the true value of time, love, and the precious moments we often overlook.
