One Book, A Bunch of Thoughts: My Take on ‘Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself’

A few months ago, I picked up a book that quietly changed something inside me. It's called "Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself" by Dr. Joe Dispenza.

I didn't expect it to have such an impact.

But It did.

let me explain in simple words what i learned and why it matters so much to me.

Have you ever felt stuck??
I've had phases where i felt like I was living the same day again and again.
Wakeup check my phone , rush through work, feel tired, scroll social media, sleep .. repeat.

even when nothing major was wrong, I could feel something inside me wasn't moving.

It was like my life was on autopilot.

Same thoughts,
Same Emotions,
Same reactions,

Dr. Joe calls this "living in the past"  and I realised I was doing that a lot!!!

Your thoughts create your reality!

The book says something very powerful "your personality creates your personal reality"

At first , it sounded a bit abstract. But as I read more, I started to understand,

If I keep thinking the same thoughts
I feel the same emotions
I act the same way
then my future will look exactly like my past

It hit me  I was literally thinking myself into the same life, and over and over

The Science Part

When I loved about the book is that it doesn't just throw the positive quotes. It explains why change is hard, from a scientific point of view.

The author talks about neuroplasticity- our brain's ability to rewire itself! Fascinating huh?
He also connects it with quantum physics, showing how our thoughts can affect the energy around us. He says we must mentally and emotionally rehearse the future we want.

Not just wish for it but feel it. Live it in the mind and body before it actually happens.

The Meditation Practice

One simple yet powerful practice from the book is daily meditation.

Now, I used to think meditation was just sitting quietly with eyes closed. But this was different.

This was about becoming aware of the “old self” the habits, emotions, and stories I kept repeating.

Then, through meditation, I slowly started imagining and feeling the kind of person I wanted to be  more peaceful, more focused, more grateful.

Believe me, it wasn’t magic. But it felt like tiny shifts were happening each day.

A while ago, I was struggling with anxiety before meetings always overthinking, doubting myself.

Instead of fighting the anxiety,

I started meditating and imagining myself as calm and confident.
I practiced feeling that way, even if it felt fake at first.

After a few weeks, something amazing happened.
I actually started feeling less nervous  and people even noticed I looked more composed.

That’s when I truly felt the book’s message working in real life.

The One Line That Stayed With Me

“To change is to think greater than your environment, your body, and time.”

This sentence is gold.

It reminds me that I don’t have to wait for the “perfect time” to change.
Change happens when I start thinking, feeling, and acting like the person I want to become right now.

If you're feeling stuck, or tired of repeating the same emotional loops, I really recommend this book.

Not because it gives you quick fixes  but because it gives you tools to understand yourself, and change from the inside.

You don’t need to be a scientist or a spiritual guru.
You just need to be open.

Disclaimer🌱
While going through reviews online, I found tons of praise and criticism.
So here's my quick disclaimer right after reading:

This is not a science textbook or a miracle cure.

Yeah, some of it sounds like sci-fi meets yoga class.
Can your thoughts really move particles? Who knows!
I still can't even move my laundry basket.

But if sitting quietly, breathing, and imagining a better version of yourself actually helps...
then maybe it's not that crazy after all.

Worst case? You get 15 minutes of peace.
Best case? You change your life.
Not a bad deal, right?
